We had a very interesting day at Sanjay Gandhi Camp. It is a slum surrounded by the embassies in Delhi with about 5000 families living there. SG Camp is seen as a “better” slum – meaning that many politicians support this slum to gain voters, so infrastructures such as water supply and public toilets are often in working condition. Here, you get a very good impression of what little improvements in water and sanitation can bring to the community. The concept of hygiene and hygiene behavior has not been fully understood yet and many things are still done wrong– however, the impact is already obvious through better health of the population and a cleaner environment.
